Beachcombers Car Show

 

Our car show was a super success.  August 23rd was a beautiful day.  There were over 60 participants and venders.  Joe Worts, chairman, thanks all the members because  the effort put forth by each member Club member made the car show a success.  Thanks to Joe for doing a great job as chairman.  And thanks to our sponsor, First State Chevy for supporting our club and the car show.  We donated $500.00 to the American Cancer Society.  Clark and Robert Bodner won best of show with their 53 Buick.  The complete list of winners can be found on page 4.

 Message from the President….

     We had a great turn out at our first meeting back at the Georgia House, with 25 members present.  Anyone who did not attend this meeting, please attend next month to hear the exciting events coming up.

    The car show was a great success, the weather was great, membership turn out and cars and venders were wonderful.  As President, I would like to thank everyone for turning up and for the work done, with a special thank you to Joe for chairing the committee for the car show. Otts deserves a special thank you for all his help and support in getting the many sponsors that he did. 

    A great time was had by all at the pool party and since it was a hot day everyone enjoyed being in the pool.

    Marie’s message will mention some other great events that she has planned for us.

FROM THE ACTIVITES CHAIR……

 

We are all looking forward to cruising to Tolchester on Sunday September 28th.  Bring your hors d’oeurvres and meet at the Millsboro WaWa at 9:00 a.m. 

 

On Saturday, October 4th we will meet at our house at 1:00 p.m. to cruise to Ocean City and park, eat, drink and watch the vettes on the boardwalk. 

 

October 11th we will have our second annual pig roast at our house.  Plan on good weather, good food and good fun.

Directions to the Dunnings boat marina. 

 

Take Route 50 to Route 213 turn right at 213.

Follow 213 by college to Chestertown at route 291, turn left for short

distance and than turn right on route 20.

Follow route 20 until you turn right on route 21 (Tolchester Beach Road)(route 21 small road). There is a empty small red building on the left at the turn, this goes down to the marina turn left into marina.

BEACHCOMBERS CORVETTE CLUB

MINUTES

September 4, 2003

 

bulletPresident Don Magee called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. 
bullet25 members were present:  Ray and Marie Myers, Don and Connie Magee, Doug and Cindy Riniker, Peter and Marion Bon, Eric and Rose Leister, Jack and Linda Casto, John and Donna Dunning, Dale and Lynne Buckwalter, Joe Worts, Otts and Pat Bortle, Bruce and Margaret Bent, Rich and Kathy Miller, and Bill and Sharon Vernon.
bulletThe President began the meeting with a thank you to all club members for their support and help at the car show on August 23rd.  A full report would follow at the committee reports.
bulletThe President then asked for the Secretary’s report. Connie Magee asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes as stated in the newsletter and then requested that the minutes be approved as written from the August meeting.  Marie made a motion to have minutes approved as written and Ray seconded the motion and they were unanimously approved.
bulletEric read the treasurer’s report.  Connie made a motion to have the report approved and Bruce seconded and they were unanimously approved.
bulletThe Vice President had no report.
bulletRose stated that she had pictures from the car show in the album.
bulletMarie stated that everyone that attended the club pool party had a great time.  Marie then mentioned that the trip to Old Salty’s cancelled due to a lack of people signing up.  That will be a trip possibly planned again in the spring.  The cruise to Tolchester, Maryland (John and Donna’s boat) is planned on for Sunday, September 28th.  Directions will be in the newsletter.  Cars will meet at the WaWa in Millsboro at 9:00 A.M. and cruise on over.  Everyone is to bring an appetizer of some sort.  Dinner will be around 4:00 and then everyone will head back home. A trip to Linganore in Maryland for a wine cruise was mentioned with no interest expressed.  The pig roast will be held again at Ray and Marie’s on October 11th.  Marie also passed out information on the Three Little Baker Dinner Theatre for everyone to look at.
bulletMarie mentioned that they had brought car show bags for anyone that did not receive one at the car show.
bulletThe President thanked Joe for his chair of the car show and the great success.
bulletJoe thanked everyone for their help.  The profit made from the car show was $1,109.01.  The American Cancer Society was presented with a check of $500.00 the day of the show.
bulletThe President then presented Otts Bortle with a plaque in appreciation of his dedication and hard work on the car show (he got many sponsors and door prizes).
bulletThe President mentioned that First State Corvette Club was having their car show on October 11th which is the same day as the Apple-Scrapple festival.  Corvettes in Ocean City will be the weekend of October 4th.
bulletJack Casto mentioned further information on the club obtaining their own website space.  The name of beachcomberscorvetteclub.org is available.  It will cost $25.00 to sign up and $11.95 a month.  Jack will handle keeping the site updated and the cost for which he will be reimbursed.  Joe made a motion to accept this and Doug seconded it, all were in favor.
bulletThe President then mentioned if anyone had and news or information on trouble with their cars and/or repairs.  A discussion followed about that.
bulletThe President then mentioned that we had tried this new meeting time of 7:30 and wanted to know if everyone was still in agreement or did they want to go back to 7:00 for the meeting.  Everyone agreed to keep the time the same.
bulletJoe mentioned that he thought it would be a good idea since we are a corvette organization to send money to the National Corvette Museum at the end of the year when we saw how our financial situation was.  They have a block that can be installed with the name of the club on it.  Everyone agreed to think on this and discuss it again at the end of the year.
bulletAt the next meeting on October 2nd the Corvettes in Ocean City that next weekend will be talked about.
bulletThe 50/50 was held and $28.00 was won by Marie Myers once again!!
bulletThe door prize of a pewter pin was won by Linda Casto. A second door prize of a hat donated by Pyramid was won by Kathy Miller.
bulletMarie mentioned that the club pay for drinks at the Dunnings’ boat.  Connie seconded the motion and it was agreed that John would be reimbursed.
bulletConnie made a motion that the club pay for the drinks and the cost of roasting the pig at the Myers on October 11th.  Joe seconded that motion and all agreed.
bulletThe President adjourned the meeting at 8:10 p.m.
