PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Happy New Year to the members I haven’t yet seen and a big WELCOME  to our newest members, Virgil and Charlene Truitt, from Millsboro!

I can’t believe my year as your President is close to its end.  We’ll be having the election of the new officers and committee chair people at the April meeting so our preparation must begin now.  The March Newsletter is going to be mailed out to every member.  It will contain an official absentee ballot for you to use if you cannot attend the April election.  I encourage members to begin recruiting  those members that you believe demonstrate their support of the PURPOSE and OBJECTIVE of Beachcombers.   I also remind you that no where in our By-Laws does it require the officers and chair people to be of a specific sex.

Dianne talked to Pat Bortle for an update on Otts and he is improving daily.  His taste buds have been revitalized and he is eating 3 meals a day…even snacking here and there…and driving his Vette around the neighborhood.    He sees his doctors once a month and is “hanging in there”.  Pat is having cataract surgery on February 8th.   Kerry Reid is also doing well with his weekly chemotherapy treatments.   While it weakens him for several days he is often able to find a little time to take his Vette out for a little drive before his next treatment.  Keep our members in your prayers and if you get a chance…drop them a greeting in the mail.

The order for the club shirts and jackets has been placed and we should have them to distribute at the February meeting.  Rick and Linda Berry ordered long sleeve polo shirts so we’ll be able to show them to everyone.  Dianne asked ESM to give us a sample of a nice quality crew neck sweatshirt and a price in case we want to consider getting one to use during the colder months.

Have a great rest-of January and enjoy the mild temps!

Bill

BEACHCOMBERS CORVETTE CLUB

MINUTES  -  January 5, 2006

Attendees:  Bill & Sharon Vernon, Carolyn & Tom Brinker, Buddy Clark, Linda & Rick Berry, Ed & Tanya Marcelle, Dianne & Bill Shaw, Don & Connie Magee, Lana and Lawrence Wesley, Leonard and Barbara Romansoff, Jim and Debbie Willis and Cindy & Doug Riniker.   Guests were Randy Goodlett.

President Bill Shaw called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

A general discussion was held on the fun everyone had at Christmas party in December.  Rick made a motion to have Carolyn go ahead and book the party for next year and Bill Vernon seconded.  All were in favor.

The President stated that we had a good turn out for the Millsboro Christmas parade, approximately 20 cars.

Dianne presented the Treasurer’s Report for December 2005.  Connie made a motion to accept the report as presented.  Bill Vernon seconded it and all were in favor.

The President read a new application received from Virgil Truitt of Millsboro.  He has a 61 red convertible and a 60 blue convertible. Rick made a motion to accept him into the club and Buddy seconded.  All were in favor.

The President mentioned that he had received a call regarding a parade in Lewes on January 14th.  A car is needed to carry the Junior Miss Delaware.  If anyone can do this, give him a call.

A thank you was given to Cindy and Doug Riniker who went down and took our ornaments off the Christmas tree at Grottos.  Dianne and Bill are going to store the ornaments until next year.  Rick was thanked for the corvette cars that we put on the tree.

Dianne mentioned where we should go for the next meeting.  Several places were suggested, La Rosa Negra in Lewes, staying at the Pizza Palace, Jimmy’s Grille in Georgetown or Harpoon Hannas.  It was stated that the Millsboro-Georgetown area is centrally located for most people.  It was decided that we would stay at the Pizza Palace in February and Dianne would check out Jimmy’s Grille in Georgetown and have the information at the next meeting.

Carolyn talked about activities for the coming year and mentioned a Valentines Party at the Shorebirds stadium in Salisbury, a trip to Linganore winery in Mt. Airy, Maryland, her usual St. Patrick’s Day party, the OC Jamboree in Ocean City.  These were all suggested and if anyone has any other ideas, to let her know.

Rick Berry talked about Gordon Killebrew coming to Burton’s Chevrolet in Seaford on March 4th.  It will be an all day affair with lunch.  The cost is $25.00 per person. Sign up will be at the February meeting.

A general discussion was held on the possibility of raising the annual dues to possibly $30.00 ($15.00 per person).  Rick mentioned that his club put their dues at $30.00 and that made it much easier to prorate ($2.50 per month).  This will be talked about again at the next meeting.

A door prize of fragrance products was donated by Cindy and won by Lana Wesley.

A door prize of a 2006 corvette calendar was won by Connie Magee.

A door prize of a 2006 corvette calendar was won by Buddy Clark.
