Message from the President….

We had another good meeting and accomplished a lot of items.  Nominations were announced for all offices.  If you have someone that you would like to nominate please be sure to do so at the next meeting because voting will be done in April.

We have two great trips planned this month, the trip to Three Little Baker’s Dinner Theatre to see Smokey Joe’s Café on February 21st and the Atlantic City trip with First State on February 28th.  I want to again thank Tom and Carolyn Brinker for providing the transportation on the 21st.

I would like to welcome our newest members, Rick and Linda Berry and to again thank Ed and Tonya Marcelle for being our guests.

I would like to remind everyone to think about someone who will be willing to take over the newsletter and to keep in mind someone to Chair the car show for August.  We need to be thinking about our highway clean-up that is usually done in May.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT DUES ARE DUE IN MARCH.                                          Don

BEACHCOMBERS CORVETTE CLUB

MINUTES

February 5, 2004

bulletPresident Don Magee called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
bullet23 members were present:  Ray and Marie Myers, Don and Connie Magee, John and Lil Stitchberry, Rich Miller, Pat and Otts Bortle, Bill and Dianne Shaw, Rose Leister, Dale and Lynne Buckwalter, George Mikalaski, Rod Halanick, Len Kozarski, Peter and Marion Bonn, Wayne and Michelle Esposito, Joe Worts, and Fred Chidester.
bulletThe President welcomed everyone and extended welcomes to guests Ed and Tonya Marcelle, Rick Berry (who has the corvette museum that everyone attended on January 17th, and to Lou and Janet Smith (who had seen our ad in the newspaper and came to check us out).
bulletThe President then asked for the Secretary’s report. Connie Magee asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes as stated in the newsletter and then requested that the minutes be approved as written.  Pat made a motion to have minutes approved as written and Marion seconded the motion and they were unanimously approved.
bulletRay read the treasurer’s report.  Connie made a motion to have the report approved and Dianne seconded and they were unanimously approved.
bulletThe Vice President read off the application of Rick Berry and his wife, Linda, from Dover.  They own 8 corvettes and Rick is President of the Shorevettes.  Ray asked for a vote to accept them as members and John made a motion and Bill seconded it and it was unanimously approved.
bulletThere was no historian report.
bulletMarie mentioned the trip to Three Little Baker’s Dinner Theatre to see Smokey Joe’s Café.  We will meet the bus at JW Pickles in Georgetown at 3:30.  The show starts at 5:30 and we should return home about midnight.  There are still two reserved seats left for anyone wishing to go.
bulletMarie mentioned that Tom and Carol Brinker would like to have a St. Patrick’s day party at their house on March 20th.  Details will follow at the March meeting.
bulletRick Berry mentioned that First State Corvette Club and the Shorevettes were doing a caravan ride down Skyline Drive in April and we were welcome to attend.  He would give us more details later.  Also mentioned was a trip to Nashville on Labor Day weekend that they were planning and details would follow.  They plan on flying down to Nashville and staying there with a trip over to the Corvette Museum.  The Shorevettes are also planning an event the 2nd weekend in June at the Salisbury Mall to coincide with the Delmarva Chicken Fry.  Details will also follow on that.
bulletMarie, as the Chair of the Nominations Committee, listed the names the club has to date for officers:

President          -           Joe Worts

Vice President -              Dale Buckwalter

Secretary          -           Dianne Shaw

Treasurer           -           Lynne Buckwalter

Historian           -           Pat Bortle

Activities Chair-              Carolyn Brinker

Sgt. at Arms      -           Peter Bonn

The floor was then opened for other nominations and Len nominated Rich Miller for Vice President.

bulletDon mentioned that we still need someone to take over the newsletter and asked everyone to think about it for the next meeting.
bulletLen mentioned that on Tuesday, February 9th, on the travel channel, they are going to have a program on Bowling Green.
bulletDon mentioned that we are still looking for meeting places for the club.  We are meeting in March at Cottage Café and he asked everyone to think about other places to go.  Len mentioned the American Legion on Route 24.  They have a huge room for a meeting place.  He is going to look into it and get information for the next meeting.
bulletConnie read a thank you note from Fred and a thank you letter from Hospice for our donation.
bulletDon mentioned that he had talked to the Shorevettes and First State about joining us for our trip to the Shorebirds on August 7.  Marie talked to Norb at the stadium and he is very excited about us coming over.  Details will follow at later meetings.
bulletDon mentioned the business cards that Len had talked about before.  Len stated that the man had never gotten back to him on this and he will follow up on this.  Marie mentioned that she had gone to Staples to check their prices out since she had been doing business cards for the officers.  She made a motion to have membership cards done for everyone who is a member in the club and for the officers.  Since First State is our sponsor and give discounts to anyone for work done in the service department, a member could show his membership card when needed.  Connie seconded the motion and all were in favor.
bulletBill Shaw brought sample shirts, a jacket and all weather pull over top to show since we had been talking about new club shirts.  Everyone is to look at them and the book.  It was suggested that possibly we could get one color shirt for the men and another color for the women so that we would all have the same shirts at club functions.  Any other items would be ordered individually.  Bill is going to get some more information for the next meeting.
bulletMarie mentioned that the existing club shirts are on sale for $8.00.
bulletDon talked about the “Gordon’s School” being held on April 3rd at Rick Berry’s garage.  Gordon Killebrew is coming to discuss hands on troubleshooting for 1984-1996 corvettes.  Breakfast and lunch will be served.  Registration is $25.00.  Several corvette clubs are sponsoring this event.  The clubs are putting up the initial fee and registration fees will be divided and returned to the clubs.  Dale made a motion to put up the $300.00 (more or less) for our sponsorship and Joe seconded the motion and all were in favor.  It was suggested that anyone interested could caravan up.
bulletDon mentioned that we needed to pick a car show chairman and begin work on planning the car show.  A possible date for the car, assuming we pick the same weekend, would be August 21st.  This would not conflict with Carlisle since that is August 27th.  We will try and pick a chairman next month.
bulletRich Miller suggested that the membership list include cell phone numbers and it was suggested that any cell phone numbers be given to Connie to include in the list.
bulletThe 50/50 was won by Don Magee for $39.00.
bulletThe door prize, donated by Bill and Dianne Shaw, was a bottle of wine and a shell vase.  This was won by our guest, Janet Smith.
bulletThe President adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Connie Magee
