The February meeting was great at
our new place, the Heritage Inn; the food was delicious, the space was great,
and I think everyone could hear me. We
are going to sign a contract for three months and we will decide again at that
time whether to continue there or not. I
think we really do not have a choice if we want to continue to have a dinner
meeting. I want to personally thank
Sharon Ruscansky for volunteering to coordinate the
meetings with the Heritage Inn, so please make sure you contact
We finally have a full slate of officers for the coming year. We only have one position to be voted on and a ballot will be handed out at the next meeting. MEALS ON WHEELS OF
Each
year members gather at the Grotto Pizza restaurant on Long Neck Road on the
designated night to kick off the holiday season by decorating a Christmas tree
and designating a charity to receive the money our tree raises. Our tree is a wonderful display of Corvette
miniatures and related decorations brightly lit by hundreds of white
lights. Our 2008 tree raised money for
Meals on Wheels to the tune of $201.27.
We thank Grotto for giving us this opportunity and also for providing a
nice YUMMY party the night we decorated.

CHARITY TO BE SELECTED
CLUB ASKS MEMBERS TO MAKE PRESENTATIONS
The kick off meeting for our August 16th
Car Show is just around the corner. The tantamount task for now is naming the charity that will reap
the benefits of our labors that day.
During the March and April meetings members will have time to make verbal
presentations about local charities that they think could greatly benefit from
being named the charity we’ll raise money for during our Car Show. We’ll need the name and address of the
Organization, name and telephone number of a point of contact, statement on the
mission and goals of the organization, and a statement on why you believe this
organization should be selected.
************************************************************************

THE CAR SIGNS ARE COMING
THEY’RE COMING REAL SOON
Joe Schluck’s
brainstorming has brought great tiding to our club yet again…this time in the
form of signs for our cars. The round
shape will be enhanced by boldly lined borders surrounding the club’s insignia. You EXCLAIM…signs on my Corvette…I think
NOT! But wait! Joe showed us a strip of the material that
will be used in the sign. He explained
how he placed it on one of his vehicles then pealed it off and placed it on
another without leaving a residue on the vehicle nor
damaging the material. Members agreed to try the sign so they’ll
order some for distribution to members.
EVER HAD A DREAM?
EVER TAKE STEPS TO MAKE
IT COME TRUE?
Beachcombers member Linda Casto made her dream a reality and now she’s
going to
My
childhood dream - become a baton twirler! I had the dollar baton with the
tassels on each end. I did what I
thought was twirling…marching came easily but I was far from a pro. The years were passing and all too quickly so
I put the twirling dream in my memory bank choosing to devote all my time to
studying in order to become a teacher.
That dream was realized but my twirling remained a dream...UNTIL…
In
February, 2004 I discovered The Villages Twirlers (Linda and husband Jack live
in the Villages in
The
Lifelong Learning College Expo offered Twirling and that’s where I began my instruction. I was fitted for my baton and learned to hold
it like a pencil. Did you know a baton
has parts? The ball...the tip…and the
shaft! My progression took me into
figure eights then learning to slip the baton through each finger followed by
tossing it in the air and throwing it under my left leg. I’ve been doing this and much more for three years
now and I still nod my head in disbelief of my ability.
Were doing about ten parades a year as well as shows for
local groups and charitable events. Our
twirling group has won trophies and the Show Team has actually been paid
for our performances. This summer my Twirling Captain, Ann Pelle, was called by the Chairman of an event that is
held each year at Disney World in Orlando, Florida known as Twirl Mania to ask
our Show Team, Parade Corps, Drum Corps, Flag Corps and Banner Corps to come to
Disney World on February 15 to parade in the Elite Group of Twirlers at the
Spectrum Light Parade, marching down Main Street at 7:30 P.M. that night.
On February 16 at the Sports Arena The Villages Show
Team that I am a member of will perform a patriotic routine known as
Twirling
has become my passion. I practice a lot and still take formal
classes. My instructor is 70 years old,
but you would never believe it. The youngest twirler in my group is 54
years old and the oldest twirler in The Villages is 80 years old and she is
still taking Twirling classes!
It
is never too late to realize a dream, especially when you live in The
Villages. The Villages is the Fountain of Youth and I feel honored to be
one of The Villages Twirlers. If you want to learn more about the events I
am involved in as a twirler please click on the website below:
http://www.thevillagestwirlers.com
As
a twirler our motto and theme song before a show is "Girls Just Want to
Have Fun!" and the fun I am having can't be described in this short story
about my life as a twirler. Performing in Disney World is another dream come true! The number of times I visited Disney World
as a child and as an adult I was always curious about performing at Disney or
parading there someday, but little did I know that my twirling would take me to
Disney to actually be a performer at an International Championship Event. Dreams do come true but you have to make it
happen.
Ironically,
the Beachcombers Corvette members have something in common with The Villages
Twirlers Captain, Ann Pelle. She and her husband, Mike, own a beautiful
2006 Le Mans Blue Corvette and are members of The Villages Corvette Club here
in
So
remember…dreams really can come true! Linda Casto..twirling aficionado!

President Connie Magee stated she had received a letter from DelDot that we would need to sign a release in order to continue this project releasing DelDot of responsibility in case of an accident. Unfinished Business: It was reported that we received $201.27 from the tree trimming at Grotto’s. This money was donated to Make a Wish.
The Christmas Party location was discussed at this time. Doug Riniker has checked Baywood Gold Club. They cannot accommodate us. He also checked with Irish Eyes on the canal and found that they were too expensive. Dianne Shaw suggested we have our party in the State Room where we are meeting this month. A motion was made and seconded to sign the contract for 3 months.

It was announced that name tags are $6.00 and that Dianne orders the shirts.
Bill Shaw has agreed to chair the care show this year.
Joe Schluck suggested an addition to the bylaws describing honorary members. It was felt that an addition to the bylaws was not needed as we do not have honorary members. It was also felt that if a non-member provides a service to the club, the non-member could be invited as a guest to a club function.
Joe Schluck showed a decal he had received. It is a peel off decal that leaves no
residue. He had used the same one on his
vehicles to test it. The club logo can
be made into this type decal. He said
they would be 3” in diameter and the cost is $80.00 for 100. Connie made a motion to purchase. The motion was seconded. She also suggested that each member would be
given the first decal and could purchase more.
