PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We had a great turn out to the last meeting, 51 members in attendance.  I am really excited about the great attendance we are having and the camaraderie from everyone.  With the holidays coming and everyone getting busy, we are not going to have a meeting in December.  We will just briefly (very briefly) talk prior to our Christmas dinner, if anything needs to be discussed.  Our Treasurer and Historian will be off on a cruise so there will not be any reports from them.

The weather is getting colder and Christmas will soon be upon us.  At the last meeting the Club decided to do the Millsboro Christmas Parade on December 1st in the morning and the Milton Christmas Parade on December 5th.  Be prepared to decorate your cars anyway that you like and everyone should wear a Santa Claus hat!!!  Details will follow later in the newsletter.

I want to thank Lew Smith for stepping up to the plate and preparing Corvette Trivia for us, even though I am a dunce when it comes to the correct answers.  Darn, he had e-mailed them to me too and I could have looked at them!!!

The votes on the By-Law changes were tallied and the two items on the dues passed and they will become effective the first of the year.

Please pay attention to Dianne’s details in the newsletter regarding the parades, the tree trimming and the Christmas party.

Connie

The meeting was called to order at Doyle’s Restaurant in Selbyville at 7:15PM.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted.  It was noted that Rich and Donna Brown had been listed as Rich and Donna Brooks.   The minutes will be revised to reflect the correction.

Treasurer’ Report:  Deb Willis gave the treasurer’s report.  It was approved.

Vice President’s Report:  Doug Riniker reported no new member applications.

Historian’s Report:  Jim Willis reported that he made up picture frames with thank you notes in each one to be given to the sponsors of the car show.  He and Joe Schluck took them to each sponsor to personally thank them.  They also took pictures of each sponsor and are putting them in a book.  They reported that the sponsors were quite surprised at this effort and were appreciative.  We are all encouraged to support these sponsors.

Activities:  Bill Vernon has organized a mystery cruise for Saturday November 3.  He reports that we will drive for about and hour and a half at which time there will be an “event”.  Lunch will be later.  We should be home around 3.  He suggested that we wear comfortable shoes and take a wind breaker. Those attending are to meet at Bill’s office on Rte 1 in Rehoboth by the Food Lion at 9:30AM.  Bill gave his cell phone number—302-228-7000—should anyone have problems with directions etc.   Jim Willis asked if the cruises could be scheduled on a Sunday—after football season--as Deb works on Saturdays and would like to attend.

Carolyn Brinker passed around the sign up list for the Christmas Party.  She requested that if anyone cannot attend the party after signing up to please notify her.    Those wanting to take part in the Christmas Gift swap should bring a $10.00 to $20.00 gift.  A gift will be retired after being swapped 2 times.

Doug suggested that we consider Irish Eyes for next year’s party.  He will call Irish Eyes and bring the information to January’s meeting.

Carolyn showed pens from the National Pen Company.  These pens can have club names and logos on them.  She suggested we get them and give them as gifts at the car show as well as to all members. The membership voted to purchase 250 pens at 37 cents each and we will receive another 250 pens free.

Carolyn passed around a flier for the Ocean City Jamboree Christmas Program if anyone wanted to attend.  This is not a club activity this month but an FYI if anyone wanted to attend on their own.

Joe Schluck would like to see more cruises.  He suggested that everyone pick a restaurant.  Whoever wins the 50/50 selects the next cruise destination.

Joe Schluck also suggested decals with the Club logo on it for the Corvettes.  He knew where he could get them (100 decals) for $80 plus shipping.  Some discussion was had and many felt they were not willing to affix permanent decals to their Corvettes.  Magnetic and/or static cling logos were suggested. Joe will ask to see if the company has these options.  Gene Ponzillo will bring a magnetic logo to the Christmas party.

Wayne Esposito reported that they went to the Ocean City Corvette show.  There were lots of clubs and 700 cars.

Report of Sickness/Distress:  It was reported that as far as was known, we were all well or recovering nicely.

Unfinished Business:  Connie reminded us of Butch Elzey’ fund raiser show in Milford on Sunday and of Corvettes for Chip show November 11 in Kennett Square, Pa.

Joe Shluck gave a report on the proposed by-law changes.  He also reviewed a letter that Bill and Dianne Shaw had sent to the officers asking that it be read in their absence.    However, he felt that their proposals represented a change in the existing by-laws where as the changes the committee proposed simply modified what was already there.   He felt that their thoughts should be presented at another time.   The proposed changes were that there would be no more pro-rated dues.  If a member joined before January that member would pay $15.00.  If a member joined in Jan. Feb. or March, that member would pay $15.00 but it would be applied to the next year.  Members would have to attend at least 3 meetings in the year and participate in one social activity and one club activity to be eligible to vote and attend the Christmas party free.  This will take effect in January if voted for.  Ballots were passed out.  The results will be published in the Newsletter.

Monday November 19 is the  Grotto Tree Trimming event.  The membership agreed to continue with this and voted on Meals on Wheels as our charity this year.  Deb Willis will send a check to Grottos.

Connie reminded the club of the Christmas parades, Millsboro 12/1 in the morning; Georgetown 12/6; Rehoboth 12/3: Milton 12/5.

The Corvette Trivia quiz was won by Bill Vernon who had all the answers correct.

Carolyn announced that we had 4 door prizes.  Two will be given away now and the other two at the Christmas party.  The two given away at this meeting were donated by Georgia Tibbs and? Sorry did not get.  They were won by Karen Schluck and Lew Smith.

The 50/50 was $145.00 ($72.50 to winner and club) and was won by Marie Myers.

The meeting was adjourned.

Minutes submitted by: Lana Wesley, secretary
