PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The recent 60-70 degree temperatures have sure made me anxious for summer to be here.

I'm looking forward to some cruises, as I am sure you are.

I spoke with Lee Turek at First State Chevy. They have agreed to again sponsor our club.  Lee also has provided us with additional “Corvette Trivia” Prizes for our meetings. We were also able to lock in Saturday the 18th of August as the date for the 8th Annual Beachcombers Corvette Club Car Show. Please remember to support our sponsor with your business, First State offers discounts for all our members.

We have doubled our limits of Liability Insurance for the Club. Effective March 2nd we now are insured for 2,000,000 per Occurrence / 4,000,000 Aggregate. We were able to do this for a cost of an additional $23. per year. According to policy language, as well as a discussion with our underwriter, the officers are “insureds” as part of this policy as long as they are operating within the scope of their duties.( Standard Language).

A new slate of officers ( President excepted) has been installed for the new term. Please come to Aprils meeting planning to nominate and install this years President.

We are glad to see membership growing. . There are many Corvette owners and enthusiasts who would benefit from our club and its activities.  Please remember to continue to pass out membership applications at every possible occasion.

Member Spotlight

Ray and Marie Myers  are Charter Members of our club.  They have been Beachcombers since its inception. TIME:  To be decided at the April 5th meeting

COST FOR MEMBER’S MEAL: $7.00 per person

Café Riveria of the Concord Mall will be doing the catering for this event and delivering the food to the Ronald McDonald House.  They are supplying everything so all we have to do is show up, do the set up, serve the meal, and clean up.  We are asking any interested member to make themselves and their Corvettes available to take the kids for rides.  We understand from the Dover club that “riding in a Corvette” is a special treat the kids enjoy.

Officer’s Reports

Secretary: The minutes from the February meeting were accepted.  Buddy Clark thanked Michelle Esposito for taking the minutes.

Treasurer:  Debbie Willis gave the latest report.  The report was accepted.

Vice President:  Doug Riniker announced that there were no new members.  He introduced Bill Pokorny a visitor from the Delmar Club and past president of both the Salisbury and Delmar clubs.

Activities: Carol Brinker announced that there was nothing planned for March.  The visit to the Ronald McDonald House is scheduled for April 28.  We will be serving dinner.   Some discussion followed as whether to have the meal catered or cook it ourselves as well as the choice of meals i.e. dinner vs. breakfast.  Rick Berry offered that it was very satisfying to actually cook the meal as well as serve, clean up etc.   Buddy Clark stated that we were committed to the dinner meal.  The membership voted on a catering service presented by Joe Schluck.  It will be done by Café Riviera of the Concord Mall.  The menu will consist of baked ziti, salad and a dessert.  The cost would be $6.25 or so per person delivered.

Carolyn announced that the Ocean City Jamboree is having a concert on Friday May 4.  It is the America’s Famous Rock and Roll Show featuring 50s, 60s and 70s music.  They already have our deposit from last year.   A sign up sheet was sent around.  Carolyn will call Ocean City  Jamboree for arrangements.

Bill Vernon would like to organize another mystery cruise for either April or May.  We will discuss this at the next meeting.

Report of Sickness/Distress:  Ed Gartside recently had knee surgery.  We will send him a card.

Unfinished Business:  Buddy announced that the Atlantic City Car Show was nice.  There were 2 buses from Georgetown and 1 from Dover.  He asked that we all try to support the other clubs.

Buddy Clark has spoken with the underwriter from Hartford Insurance re: our general liability insurance coverage.  We are currently covered for all the activities we hold.  They will not, however, provide coverage for the club to take children for rides as we had hoped to do for the Ronald McDonald trip.  Officers and directors are insured while operating within the scope of their duties.  We can increase our coverage to from 1M per occurrence/2M aggregate to 2/4 for $23.00 per year.  Bill Shaw made the motion to increase the coverage. Connie Magee seconded.  All agreed.

This will be the last chance for tickets for LDAF 2007 Corvette that has been on display at the Caldwell Banker Real Estate office on Rte. 1 in Rehobeth.  The drawing will be held March 10th at the Autism Ball.  Anyone interested should contact www.LDAF.com to purchase a ticket; visit the office at Clay Road or at the Rehobeth Beach car wash.

Buddy announced that he will be forming a committee for the 8th annual Beachcombers Corvette Club car show.  The date of the show will probably be August 18, a week before the Carlyle car show. Buddy will clear the date with 1st State Chevrolet.

New Business:

Rick Berry has obtained corporate documents for incorporation of the club. There is a filing fee of $500.00.  Bill Vernon has offered his attorney to assist us with this.  We must decide on a corporation name, a director,  mission statement and contact information.

It was questioned by  Eric Leister  whether or not we were already incorporated.  He recalled a past president working on this and he felt it had been done.  Bill Vernon offered that in order to stay incorporated a fee had to be paid each year and he did not recall this being done.  Doug Riniker will check documents to see if there is any information there.  Connie Magee will call the Corporation Board to check also.

Rick Berry will be the resident agent if/when we are incorporated.

Motion by Bill Shaw:  do we want to be incorporated. This motion was seconded.  All agreed.

Motion: if not incorporated we should move forward with Rick Berry as resident agent.  We will incorporate as Beachcombers Corvette Club of Southern Delaware Inc.  The serving president will be the director. This motion was seconded.  All agreed.

It was announced that the VAFW Post 8276 is having a car, truck and motorcycle show on May 19.

Dinner locations were discussed.  We will meet at the LaRosa Negra for the next 3 months.

Buddy Clark thanked all officers and committees for their help, as well as Dianne Shaw for the newsletter and Connie Magee for the many things she does for the club.  He thanked everyone for the efforts they put forth and said we should all be proud of these efforts.

Elections of Officers:   The current slate is for Vice President through activities chairman.  Buddy announced that he will be unable to serve as president for the coming year. He asked for nominations from the floor but those offered were declined.   The current slate from VP to Sgt. at Arms was voted on and accepted by the membership.

The officers are:

Vice President: Doug Riniker

Treasurer: Debbie Willis

Secretary: Lana Wesley

Historian: Debbie Willis

Activities: Carolyn Brinker

Sgt. at Arms: Cindy Riniker

We are still in need of a President.

Rick Berry announced that he is again hosting the Ducks Unlimited outdoor show at Greenwood.  This is a good show for children as well as adults.  If interested in going to this event, contact Rick.

Buddy announced that dues are now due.  If not already paid, please send a check to Debbie Willis.

Dianne Shaw will be ordering shirts this month.  Place your order with her now.

Dianne also announced that she had 3 participation plaques from last year’s car show for those who did not get theirs.

Five door prizes were donated by, the Ruskanskys, Courtney and Buddy Clark, the Willis’ and Michelle Esposito.  They were won by Tom Brinker, the Zwirs’, Rose Leister and Diane Brooks.

The 50/50 was $104.00 ($52.00 to the club--$52.00 to the winner)  Marie Myers won .

The meeting was adjourned.
