THE VETTE GAZETTE
JUNE 2007
VOLUME . 9 ISSUE NO. 2
The meetings of July 5TH and August 2nd will be
held at
DOYLE’S RESTAURANT – RT 113 –
SELBYVILLE, DE
(302) 436-2112
Socializing
and dining from 6:00 p.m. Meeting at
7:30 P.M.
ATTENTION
Doyles asked us to do a
buffet for the July and August meetings due to the heavy influx of
vacationers. We were not pleased
stating the reason we came there is the privilege of ordering off the
menu. They assured us a return to
ordering from the menu in September.
Cost of the buffet will be $16 per person and will include salad items,
several entrees, veggies, maybe pasta, and dessert. I will have to give them an approximate head count 2 days before
but the good thing is only those who eat will have to pay.
PLEASE CALL DIANNE SHAW AT 302-541-4891 by
Tuesday, July 3rd to let her know you will be there for dinner. We need to give Doyles somewhat of a head
count.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I
am so pleased and overwhelmed that our membership keeps growing. We had 22 people turn out for the highway
clean up which I think is the most we have ever had and we had 45 people to our
last meeting. We must be doing
something right!!
Don
and I will not be at the Shorebird event and will be sorry to miss all of
you. It is always a lot of fun but we
had our choice of the Shorebird game or being with our grandson in New
Hampshire and it did not take me long to decide that I wanted to be with our
little “Drewbug” as we call him. Have a
great time at the game and be sure to keep Carolyn out of the line of any foul
balls hit in her direction!!
I
think we all enjoyed hearing from Butch and Becky Elzey on the wonderful event
they organized for our wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital and I am glad
that the Club agreed to donate some much needed funds for these men and women.
For those of us that were not able to participate, I know that in our hearts,
our thoughts and prayers are with them and that a big “thank you” goes out to
all these men and women that are over there protecting our country.
The
car show is coming together with everyone’s help and I think it is really going
to be a great event. I want to thank
Dianne and Bill for all their work that they will be doing in planning and
getting the food, Don, Joe, Lew and Buddy for their work on organizing and
planning the trophies that will be needed, and for Barbara and her committee on
setting up how the registration table can run more efficiently.
Don
and I will not be at the next meeting so Doug will be your “Pres” for that
night. I hope to see all of you for the
Smith Island Cruise on July 15th.
It will be a lot of fun!
Connie

GUESTS: Butch & Becki Elzey
Sergeant-At-Arms Cindy
Riniker called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. at Doyles Restaurant in
Selbyville, Delaware.
President Connie Magee
greeted members and welcomed new members Steve Martins and Jeffrey
Martins. She introduced guests Bob and
Kathy Schlossnagle who have applied for membership. Their application will be presented by Vice President Doug
Riniker.
Secretary Lana Wesley’s
minutes for the May meeting were printed in the May newsletter. There were no corrections. Buddy Clark made motion to accept them as
printed. Second by Bill Vernon. The minutes were unanimously accepted.
Treasurer Debbie Willis
reported our funds will be transferred to Delaware National Bank from County
Bank primarily because County Bank requires a significant daily balance be
maintained. The detailed report is:
Starting balance of $3,064.25
Receipts of 2,326.00
Disbursements of 2,301.57
Ending balance of 3,419.43
Among the money received was
that from First State Chevy-Olds which they contribute to us as our
sponsor. Buddy Clark made motion to
accept the report. Rose Leister
second. The report was unanimously
accepted.
As to the placement of our
funds at Delaware National Bank, Doug Riniker interjected that WFSF offers
interest on checking. Debbie Willis
affirmed and stated her concern as to who would claim the interest earned. The issue became mute.
Highway Clean Up Night – The President thanked all 22 members who attended this
event. They collected 17 bags of trash. Someone found a dollar and 10 ticks were
picked off Michelle Esposito.
Activities – Carolyn Brinker – The club is setting forth a new policy with respect to attending our events that cost
money. She said once you sign up to attend an event it is essential
that you either cancel or pay before the event. The club had to pay out money to cover our commitment for the
night at the OC Jamboree which is just not acceptable.
Shorebirds Outing – Saturday, June 30th. Gametime is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person for box
reserved. General admission will be
available that evening if you decide to attend at the last minute. All those participating in the need to be

group should meet at the Millsboro WaWa which is at the corner of Route 24 and
113. We will depart WaWa at 4:30 p.m.
and cruise to the stadium. Before the
game we will parade around the field.
Members will complete index cards at the stadium. The required information for the cards will
be used by the announcer as the cars roll onto the field.
Proposed July Outing – Cruise to Smith Island – We will meet and cruise to the Crisfield Ferry. The boat cost is $20. We have to be at the ferry
at 12:30 p.m. While on the island we
will eat and enjoy their renowned multi-layer chocolate cake. Tentative date voted on is July 8th
but please check the Activities Section of the upcoming newsletter for complete
details.
Pool Party for Beachcombers Members – August 4 at Don
and Connie Magees – Details will be
presented at the July meeting. Please
watch the newsletter for specifics.
Vice President Doug Riniker presented membership application from Bob and Cathy
Schlossnagle. Bill Vernon made a motion
to accept them as new members. Buddy
Clark second and all were in favor.
The President began the report on the Car Show. While we are
in really good shape with respect to our Sponsors we still need lots of Door
Prizes.
Don Magee sought volunteers to attend the Old Timers
Day on June 16th in Selbyville and distribute flyer for our car
show. Dianne and Bill Shaw will hand
out flyers.
Don Magee also sought volunteers to attend the
Harrington Car Show on June 22nd and hand out flyers. Volunteers were to see Don after the
meeting.
Don Magee reported Joe Schluck created a large sign
containing all the classes of cars for our show. The board will be posted at registration. After reviewing the categories, registrants
will self-identify the class they will compete in. Joe reported there are 10 classes to choose from. Registered participants will vote for all
the prizes. Beachcombers members can be
registered participants but they cannot vote.
The Children’s Beach House in Lewes is our charity
for the car show. This facility
provides stays at the beach for
children with special needs.
Members requested that a list of sponsors be posted
in our newsletter so we can make a sincere effort to patronize those
establishments.
First State Corvette Club – Annual Car Show – Saturday
– June 9th at Boscov’s at the Dover Mall. Registration
begins at 8:00 a.m. Judging at 11:30

were acknowledged. Lower Delaware
Autism Foundation, Beebe Medical Center, Gull House, and Ronald McDonald house
sent in letters of thanks.
Applications for membership in Beachcombers – available at the table in the back of the room. Please take some and carry them with you so
you can recruit new members.
Sick and Distress – Kathy Miller fell and broke her arm.
She is doing well. Debbie Willis
will send a card from the club.
Changes to Club By-Laws – A review by the committee revealed the only necessary
revision is to include Inc. after the club name now
that we are incorporated. Connie Magee
will make the change. Motion to make
the change by Don Magee. Second by Lew
Smith. All were in favor.
Car Show Report – Buddy Clark – Stated names of the committee chairpeople. Circulated a sheet listing all the items we
need to have on hand the day of the show.
He asked that people sign up to bring any items they can .
Door Prizes
– we want to have as many door prizes as possible. The plan is for all attendees to gather under the overhand at
First State Chevy Olds while the votes are being tabulated. While that is taking place the door prizes
will be awarded. Every registered
participant will receive a door prize ticket at registration. Door Prize donation letters are available on
the table at the back of the room and we will try to include one at the end of
the newsletter.
Butch and Becki Elzey – Walter Reed Cruise and Car
Show to say Thank You to our Soldiers – Butch
has organized this event which is being allowed by the Department of the
Army. The even is not political. It is just he and Becki’s way to expressing
sincere thanks to those who have fought so valiantly to keep us a free
nation. There are approximately 650
soldiers with various type of injuries at Walter Reed. His goal is to provide a car show, a
Southern Delaware Style Cookout, and gift cards for each soldier. They are providing all the food and any
money contributed will go directly to the troops. Their goals is to provide $50 to $100 gift cards to each
soldier. All contribution can be send
to the Felton Bank. Joe Schluck made
motion that the club give Butch a check tonight in the amount of $500 toward
his goal. It was second by Doug Riniker. All were in favor. NOTE: This note taker
observed many members giving cash and checks to Butch and Becki for this worthy
cause.
Corvettes at Carlisle – The event is August 24th. Ed Marcelle from First State Corvette Club
and Eastern Shore Corvette Club has rooms on a first come first serve
basis. Contact him on your own to make
arrangements if you are interested in going.
He is at 302-644-1967.
Tuesday Night Drive In at the Millsboro Dairy Queen – Every Tesday at 6:00 p.m. until at the Route 24 Dairy
Queen in Millsboro across from the Post Office just east of the railroad
tracks.
Adhesive Name Tags for Meetings – Dianne Shaw made a motion that the club purchase
adhesive name tags and have them available for members and guests at each club
meeting as a way of getting to know who everyone is.
Club Shirts and Jackets – Dianne Shaw will place an order the week of the 11th. See her after the meeting if you want to
place an order.
Rick Berry’s Corvette Trivia – Winner was Lew Smith.
50/50 of $72 was
won by Scott Clapper.
Door Prizes –
Sharon Vernon’s prize was won by Doc Romansoff. The Brown’s prize was won by Steve Brooks. George Shannon’s prize was won by Bill
Zwirz. The Schluck’s prize was won by
Janet Smith. The prize donated by First
State Chevy Olds was won by new member Bob Schlossnagle.
Meeting adjourned at 8:42
p.m.
Respectfully submitted for
the Secretary
By Dianne Shaw
