At the August meeting we
will have 2 servers and be ordering off the menu. Sorry for the mix up at the July meeting. Despite giving them our meeting dates and me
calling in a number for the buffet they were not even expecting us Tuesday,
July 5th. That is why we
ordered off the menu instead of having a buffet.
I will still have to give
them an approximate head count 2 days before so please give me a call if you
will be there for dinner.
PLEASE CALL DIANNE SHAW AT 302-541-4891 by

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Since I was not in attendance at our July meeting I do not have a lot to say for a change!! I understand the Berrys’ showed up in their new snazzy Indy Pace Car and Mike Fanning had his new 2007…I cannot wait to see them!
I am sorry there was some confusion about the buffet/dinner at the last meeting. Needless to say our wonderful Dianne Shaw got it all straightened out and we are on as planned for the meeting on August 2nd and we will be ordering off of the menu.
The Smith Island cruise is this Sunday and make sure you drive your cars. The plan is to meet at the Payless Furniture Store in Millsboro at 10:00 and we will cruise down to Crisfield together. See you all then.
Connie

DELAWARE
COMMUNITY APPRECIATION GROUP – REPORT BACK
Remember this
group? It’s the one Butch and Becki
Elzey organized to honor and show appreciation to the wounded soldiers at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center. We
made a $500 donation to this cause and attendees Bill and Sharon Vernon reported
it was just a wonderful event…”it was so emotional…we were overwhelmed…those
kids were an inspiration…the whole day was quite moving…the people from Milford
did themselves proud and made lower Sussex county well represented in the eyes
of those soldiers”.
The club received a
very gracious “Thank You” from the group for our donation. Butch wrote “We had so many thanks, but we
always said it was we who were there to thank THEM, and their constant response
was that they were just doing their job…a true bunch of heroes!” Every cent of
the $21,000 raised in cash donations was able to go straight to those
troops. Butch’s group reached many
goals that day…especially the one to give every soldier a gift card so they
could get what they wanted…not what others might decide they should have. Every soldier there was given a $75 Target
Gift Card. Endless Kudos from
Beachcombers for a job well done!
MEMBER
AND ANGLER TOM BRINKER LANDS A BIG ONE!
I brought the article
home to put a little blurb in the newsletter but I have no idea what I did with
it. I think it was a 435 pound Thrasher
Shark…what a hoist! If you’ve ever been
to the Brinkers you know that Tom is quite an angler. Some of his catches from previous outings are attractively
displayed…keeping fond memories close.
Good Job Tom!

The meeting was called to order by Sgt. at Arms, Cindy Riniker at Doyle’s Restaurant.
Vice President, Doug Riniker presided.
Officer’s reports
Secretary’s report---the minutes from the previous meeting were accepted.
Treasurer’s report—report given by Deb Willis. The report was accepted.
Vice President’s report—Doug Riniker reported that there were no new applications this month.
Historian’s report—Jim Willis reported that the photo album now included pictures of the trip to the Shorebirds game. He also reported that a Millsboro police officer, Sgt. Calloway, held traffic on rte. 24 so that the members could have safe entry onto the road and follow each other. He wrote a letter to the Millsboro Chief of Police thanking Sgt. Calloway.
Activities-VP Doug Riniker made the following announcements-
Ronald McDonald house is having a Corvette show on July 14 for Corvettes only.
The Magees are having a pool party for the club on August 4—time to be announced. Attendees were asked to bring a covered dish. The Magees have asked that the club pay for the chicken and sodas. This was voted on and accepted.
Joe Schluck attended the Millsboro Cruisers meeting for some damage control regarding last year’s Corvette show. He explained to the club how the show was going to be run this year and that the same problems should not recur. The Cruisers will support our show. In return they asked that we support their show on August 11 at Millsboro Ford.
There is an antique car show on DuPont Boulevard in Frankford every Friday night from 6-10.
VP Riniker passed around a copy of the Coastal Fisherman which had a picture of Tom Brinker on the front with a 400 + pound thresher shark that he had caught.
Carolyn Brinker reported that the Shorebirds trip was great and the Shorebirds won. Hurray!!!
Carolyn said that the Smith Island trip will be Sunday July 15. The cost is $77.00 per couple. That includes the boat and a meal on the island. We need to be there by 12N as the boat leaves at 12:30. It was agreed that we will meet at the Payless parking lot on rte. 113 in Millsboro at 10AM.
Buddy Clark gave a report on the progress of the car show. Everything is moving along as it should. We still need more door prizes, however. The idea is to not have any down time during the show and the awarding of door prizes will help. Doug Riniker suggested that we ask at any place we do business. Most businesses are willing to give those things. It is good advertisement. We are to contact Buddy Clark if we get any door prizes.
There will a meeting of chairpersons—date-time to be announced.
A question arose as to having vendors. Buddy Clark requested that if anyone wanted to do that they should call him. There have been vendors in the past but not a lot of positive feed back. It seems they don’t make much at these functions.
Report of sickness/distress Dianne Shaw reported the Kathy Miller is doing well and is out of the cast.
Unfinished business Bill Vernon talked about his trip to Walter Reed. Butch Elzy of the Millsboro club had arranged for an outing for the patients there. They had barbequed chicken, pulled pork etc. The Jr. Wilson Band entertained. Bill reported that is was an emotional and gratifying trip. Most of the patients were 18 to 22 years- some with multiple amputations and all with serious injuries. Many of them were reluctant to come out into the courtyard, because they thought it might be a media event. They soon
realized that the day was for them and their families and they joined in. One young man was reported to have not left his room since entering the hospital (about 6 weeks) but he joined in as well and had a great time. About 400 people including family members were served. There were 25 classic cars—corvettes and hot rods—as well as a car made out of scrap. $21,000 has been collected so far, all of which will go to the troops. Donations are still being taken. They can be made to the Delaware Community Appreciation Group
Doc Romansoff showed a golf hat with the Beachcombers logo on it. It is $11.14. For an additional $3.00 a name will be embroidered on the back. The hat was made at Castle Graphics. He requested that if enough members wanted the cap that the club pay the initial $35.00 fee for the digitizing of the design. He passed around a sign up list for those who wanted to order a cap.
Dianne Shaw reported that there were no more tee shirts and asked if we wanted to reorder them. It was suggested that we sell them at the car show. Dianne will call to see how much the shirts are by volume and present it to the car show committee.
Doug reminded the membership that the Carlyle Corvette Show is the weekend of August 24.
Buddy Clark asked the committee Chairs to co-ordinate the next meeting with Dianne Show.
Door prizes—50/50
Door prizes were donated by Carolyn Brinker, Diane Brooks, Deb Willis and Steve Brooks. They were won by Sylvia Nichols, Bill Shaw, Diane Brown and Doc Romansoff.
The 50/50 ($61.50 each) was won by Rich Brown.
The meeting was adjourned.
