PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Let me start out with a huge thank you to the Car Show Committee and all the hard work and dedication they all did in putting together the car show.   There was a lot or work and planning going into this show, trying to correct the mistakes made last year.  I think this was a great show and the best in attendance we have ever had with 138 cars and 43 members in attendance who worked throughout the day.  Dianne Shaw and her crew worked non-stop all day serving food and

drinks to the hungry crowd.  Awards were given out at 1:00 and most everyone was gone by 1:30.  Try to make the next meeting on September 6 – Rich Garrett of Children’s Beach House will be there to give us a 10 minute presentation on the children and we will present him with our check.

Backing up prior to the car show, the pool party was a great success and for those of you who did not attend, I think it was a mutiny against the President that day.  We had water guns and had a great time having water fights.  I think they were trying to drown me.  I guess, to be honest, I started it when I planned on jumping into the pool right next to Janet and my feet slipped and down I went, glasses and all.  Then the fun began!!! Even the ones who did not bring bathing suits got a good soaking by everyone in the pool.  Now Rich Brown had an unfair advantage.  I know he got a good soaking in his clothes but he went and got the garden hose and turned it on us.  Everyone laughed, ate lots of good food and socialized.  I cannot wait until next year, I am going to get one of those “Super Soakers” and be ready!!!

BIG KUDOS TO THE FOOD CONCESSION WORKERS

AT THE CAR SHOW

By 6:45 a.m. the tables and food concession paraphernalia were being unloaded from the trailer and by 1:45 p.m. we were on the road going home!  What a day it was!  The set-up crew had us ready to go by 7:00 a.m..  Linda and Jack Casto arrived with cooked scrapple followed closely behind by Georgia Tibbs with scrapple and chopped onions in hand.  Bruce and Margaret Bent rolled in shortly thereafter with the cooker and water for the hot dogs followed by Cindy and Doug Riniker with ice galore.  Jeff and Steve Martins arrived and quickly set about the task of carrying chairs from Rick & Linda Berry’s trailer to the eating area where we had set up tables for show goers to sit a spell, eat, and socialize.   Cindy, Linda, Georgia, and Margaret readied the scrapple sandwiches.  By 8:30 sales had begun and it didn’t let up all day.  Bruce was getting organized for his 10:00 start time for cooking hot dogs only to be engulfed by requests for them before 9:00 so you know what he had to do to meet customer needs.  This is not a lie….from that time until we were sold out he and Margaret did not leave the hot dog cooker.  He cooked and dipped…she placed the dogs on rolls and wrapped them for sale.  Others wrapped too when not waiting on customers, but the Bents worked in seamless motion.  What a team!  Karen Schluck and Georgia Tibbs were another key team as they sold and cashiered all day long.  They were invaluable.  I can’t imagine being there without them.  I noticed that while Bill Shaw, Larry Wesley and Bob Burton were manning the concessions the female patronage significantly increased!  Mike Fanning was our goodwill ambassador based in the eating area and Tom Brinker saved us with a much needed ice run  Then there is my Bill…he helped me with everything…picking up beverages in Salisbury; shopping for food at SAM’s club; loading my car on Friday evening; working that day in concessions; and yes, he unloaded my car once we got home…I was exhausted!  I could not have done it without him.  To everyone who helped in concessions throughout the day…you are the greatest and I do so appreciate each of your significant contributions to our club.  I also appreciate Jim Willis for his acquisition of Giant Food’s contribution of 240 hot dogs and rolls AND a donation of 36 huge muffins from Touch of Italy bake shop in Millville.  We realized $359 in clear profit because of those contributions.

A few shows ago Charter Member Kathy Miller suggested setting up the eating area and I was determined to see it come to fruition this year and it was a great success.  At the first car show her husband, Charter Member Rich Miller, suggested selling scrapple sandwiches.  I don’t know how many pounds were sold back then but this year we sold 15 pounds.
