PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Fall is here and with it are cooler temperatures. Three is still time to enjoy some cruising. Remember Ocean City is doing their Endless Summer Cruisin’ October 5th thru 8th. Plan to be there, it is always a great time. The number of Cars at this event is incredible and surely something to see. More info is available at www.oceancity.com.  Perhaps our club could meet for this fun time early enough to get front row seats for the boardwalk cruise.

Eastern Shore Corvettes had their Corvette show at I G Burton in Seaford. About five Beachcombers members were in attendance. It was a well run Corvette only show.

George Stadler and I will be leaving for our Route 66 trip on the 25th of September. We will travel to Chicago, then out “The Mother Road” to Santa Monica, up the California coast to San Francisco, across to Lake Tahoe, and back the northern route with many planned stops along the way. We will return sometime in mid October. See you at the November meeting.

Member Spotlight

Don Magee is a Past President, among a great many other positions he has held, and duties he has performed for our club. Connie Magee has for years, among other things, been doing organizational and secretarial issues, keeping our membership list updated, making up show flyers, membership applications, sending pre show and post show letters to sponsors, Both Connie and Don volunteered their time to distribute car show flyers for many years to other area shows. They have solicited sponsorships for trophies, goodie bag items, even the bags themselves. They have stuffed goodie bags, worked all day at the show, attended and been actively involved in most club functions and meetings. They have promoted Beachcombers Corvette Club and have gladly done whatever is asked of them without hesitation. Their involvement and contributions to our club go back many years and surely include much more than could be mentioned in the short space provided here. We are grateful to have such committed members as you and the club truly appreciates you both.

In closing I ask you keep former members Otts and Pat Bortle in your prayers.  According to Pat it appears that Otts’ days have become limited.  This information is passed along with a heavy heart.

Can You Believe There Are Only 118 More Shopping Days

Until CHRISTMAS !

Don’t scream!  I know we haven’t even celebrated Labor Day!  But remember THE CLUB’S CHRISTMAS is going to be on Saturday, December 2 so we have even fewer days to shop for the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington, Delaware.  Yes, that’s right!  At a recent meeting the club voted to eliminate our gift exchange at the Christmas Party and instead, we’ll be filling boxes with items the Ronald McDonald House needs on a day to day basis for its residents …their WISH LIST!  Connie Magee is going to bring copies of their Wish List to the September - December meetings so we can begin shopping.  I’m also asking her to put a copy of the list at the end of this newsletter.  I figure…the more time we have to shop…the more items we can purchase.  I want to ask something of our members who know they will not be attending the club’s Christmas party.  Please shop now and bring your items to the upcoming club meetings.  If you are not able to shop but want to contribute just send a check to me, Dianne Shaw, and I will shop for you!  I’m at 38235 Bridgehampton Lane, Ocean View, DE 19970.  If you need to talk I’m at 302-541-4891.  It’s going to be such a warm way to celebrate our holiday season and help a wonderful charity at the same time.  Although I am not positive I think we might cruise to the McDonald House to deliver our items and spend time with the residents and patients.  We’ll keep you posted

.

Historian—no report

Carolyn reminded the membership of the Ocean City Corvette show on October 6 –8.  Last year some of the members met a Seacrets for lunch and went from there.  She suggested we decide what to do at the next meeting.

Bill Vernon—another mystery cruise is in the works but this being a busy time of year and it will probably be later in the fall.  We will discuss this at the next meeting.

Carolyn reported that we should pick a new date for the Ocean City Jamboree.

The last outing was cancelled and we have not received our check back.  We will discuss this at a later date, as this will be a good winter activity.

Rick Berry invited the membership to a Scavenger Hunt sponsored by 1st State Corvettes.  It will be on October 15.

Committee Reports

There were no committee reports.

Report of Sickness/Distress

Dianne Shaw will have surgery.  The membership asked Bill to please pass on our concerns and good wishes.

Unfinished Business

Don and Connie Magee were thanked for a good time had by all at their pool part.

The car show was a tremendous success with entrants exceeding all other shows.  There were over 100 registered cars.

Doug Riniker asked if the thank you letters had been sent to the sponsors.  Connie Magee stated that they were all mailed.

Bill Shaw thanked all who helped.

Corvettes at Carlisle was held the week following our car show and was attended by several of our members. Bill and Sharon Vernon were invited to exhibit their car in the

NCRS building for the full term of the show.  Tom and Carolyn Brinker stopped in Burtonsville Maryland on their way home and purchased a 2001 Corvette.

All that attended had a fine time.

Other Announcements

On the day of the Christmas Party there are activities going on in Lewes it will be difficult to go through Lewes.  It is suggested that we use the Freeman Bridge.

Doug Riniker –on 9/30 another Adopt a Highway project will take place.  He asked if we wanted to do it again at that time.  The membership decided to leave it as is for now and bring it up again in the spring.

Trivia answers were read and a winner was named.  However this recorder neglected to list that information while taking notes.  Sorry winner.
