PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hi Everyone!

Hey Doug…I hear the October meeting went great…thanks!

Today is October 9, 2006.  George Stadler and I have made it all the way out Route 66 and it was just a wonderful adventure.  We went along the California coast yesterday. Went to Pebble Beach and stayed in Carmel last night.  We are having a BLAST!

It’s not easy to convey sad news but I must.  Our long-term member Otts Bortle has died after a valiant battle with cancer.  The club has been in touch with Pat and she is doing well.  There will be a visitation with Pat followed by a Memorial Service for Otts on Saturday, October 28th at 12:00 noon at the Hastings Funeral Home on South Main Street in Selbyville, Delaware.  Club members are meeting outside the home at 12:00 noon then proceed inside as a group.  I do hope many of you can attend because I know it would be so meaningful for Pat and Otts’ family.  If you have any questions call Dianne Shaw at 302-541-4891.

See you all at the November meeting.

Buddy

O’Shell out of Millsboro will be sporting almost twin Stingrays…1974 and 1979.  If you see a 1973 Medium Blue Coupe in the Millsboro area it’s likely Robert & Jean Phillips.  Now if you’re in Lewes and see a 2004 Red convertible give them a wave  because it’s Bob and Colleen Schultz.  When in Rehoboth Beach give a wave to John Waddington.  If you’re further south in Selbyville and you see a 1998 Black convertible give a wave to Jim and Lucia Zervakos and if you’re in the Ocean View area and see a 2002 Red Coupe then you’ve met up with Tom and Kathy Mulcare.  Hey everyone…welcome to Beachcombers!  We’re so happy you have joined us!

Getting to know you will be such fun!  Please take a look at the Club’s Christmas Party Information at the top of page one of this newsletter.  It is such a nice gathering.  Dress ranges from Sunday best to casual dressy.  We have a DJ and instead of a gift exchange we voted to purchase items on the Ronald McDonald House’s Wish List which you can find at the end of this newsletter. Your items can be brought to the November 2nd club meeting or to the Christmas party.  Please be sure to take a look at the Activities Section to keep abreast of upcoming events.

Can You Believe There Are Only 118 More Shopping Days

Until CHRISTMAS !

Don’t scream!  I know we haven’t even celebrated Labor Day!  But remember THE CLUB’S CHRISTMAS is going to be on Saturday, December 2 so we have even fewer days to shop for the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington, Delaware.  Yes, that’s right!  At a recent meeting the club voted to eliminate our gift exchange at the Christmas Party and instead, we’ll be filling boxes with items the Ronald McDonald House needs on a day to day basis for its residents …their WISH LIST!  Connie Magee is going to bring copies of their Wish List to the September - December meetings so we can begin shopping.  I’m also asking her to put a copy of the list at the end of this newsletter.  I figure…the more time we have to shop…the more items we can purchase.  I want to ask something of our members who know they will not be attending the club’s Christmas party.  Please shop now and bring your items to the upcoming club meetings.  If you are not able to shop but want to contribute just send a check to me, Dianne Shaw, and I will shop for you!  I’m at 38235 Bridgehampton Lane, Ocean View, DE 19970.  If you need to talk I’m at 302-541-4891.  It’s going to be such a warm way to celebrate our holiday season and help a wonderful charity at the same time.  We are planning an April or May cruise to the McDonald House to prepare breakfast for the residents and staff.
