PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

With the changing colors and falling of the leaves comes a great time of year to drive around and enjoy the sights. I hope everyone had the opportunity to benefit from this beautiful time of year.

I am happy to report that Connie Magee’s leg and foot surgery went well even though it was much more complicated than expected and that she is recovering nicely.

Remember to check the upcoming events section of the newsletter. There are plenty of fun things coming up to enjoy. ( parades, parties, etc.)

Bill Vernon organized a club mystery cruise November 18th. In attendance were Rich & Kathy Miller, Bill & Sharon Vernon, Tom & Kathy Mulcare, Buddy Clark, Bob Burton, Susan Daugherty, and Bob Walton (A friend of The Vernon’s) We Cruised to Furnace Town in Maryland, then on to our final destination, Chincoteague Island, Virginia where we had lunch overlooking beautiful Chincoteague Bay. Bob Burton won the trivia contest. The prize was a real nice Corvette fender cover donated by Bill Vernon. The weather cooperated nicely and it turned out to be a fun time for all. Thank You Bill for all your efforts in putting this event together.

We are glad to see membership growing. . There are many Corvette owners and enthusiasts who would benefit from our club.  Please remember to continue to pass out membership applications at every possible occasion.

Treasurer’s Report:  Janet Smith reported.  The treasurers’ report was approved.

Vice President’s Report:  Doug Riniker reported that there were no new members this month.

Historian’s Report:  There was no report.

Activities:  Pictures of recent events were passed around, including the car show, the Shorebirds game, the Magee pool party and Rick Berry’s picnic.

Carol Brinker announced that the Grotto Tree Trimming would be November 20 at the Long Neck Grottos from 8PM to 10PM.  Some discussion was had about which charity we should sponsor. Several charities were mentioned. Carol reported that last year Grotto’s had repeated the charity from the year before because we did not inform them of our new charity.  A motion was made to go with the charity we selected for last year-seconded by Connie Magee.  The minutes from last year will have to be checked to see what that charity was.

The mystery cruise will be November 18.  We will meet at the Millsboro WaWa at 9:30AM.  A sign up list was passed around.  Bill Vernon is organizing the cruise.

We were reminded of the Christmas Party at the Lighthouse Restaurant (LHR) in Lewes on December 2.  The club pays for qualified members.  Qualified members are those who have participated in at least one activity and attended 3 meetings.  New members are automatically qualified.

The club elected to donate to the Ronald McDonald House wish list in lieu of gifts.  The items can be taken to Grottos for the tree trimming, to the Christmas Party or to the first meeting in January.  Connie Magee is chairman of this activity and will arrange for delivery of the items.

Buddy Clark reminded the membership of the parade in Lewes on the night of the party.  We should use the Freeman Bridge, as several streets in Lewes will be blocked off.

Carol asked if we wanted a DJ.  The membership voted to have a DJ.

Connie suggested that we invite Pat Bortel and guest to the Christmas Party.  The membership agreed. Connie will invite her.

It was announced at this time that Otts Bortel’s 2006 Vette is for sale.

Buddy Clark announced that the Millsboro Christmas Parade will be December 2.  The line up will start at 8AM at the M & T Bank on Mitchell Street.  Canned goods will be accepted as a donation.  A sign up sheet was passed around.

Report of Sickness/Distress:  Connie Magee will have surgery on her leg on Monday.  The Club wishes her well.

Unfinished Business: Marie Myers reported that she and Ray went to the OC Corvette Boardwalk Cruise and that it was quite good.

Don & Connie Magee and Bill & Dianne Shaw took a silk flower arrangement to Pat Bortle on behalf of the Club in memory of Otts.  It was much appreciated.  It was originally agreed that they would take a spiral ham however, Pat had a caterer, hence the flower arrangement.

Buddy reminded the membership that the tip would be included in our bills.

Don Magee and Bill Shaw represented our club in the City of Laurel Parade last month.  The city had also recruited other clubs for their participation.

Buddy thanked Don and Bill for their participation.

The Scavenger Hunt sponsored by 1st State Corvettes is postponed until further notice.  Rick Berry will inform us of the new date and time.

New Business:  The next meeting will be very brief at the Christmas party.  There will be no meeting on December 7.  Dianne Show will announce the meeting place for the January meeting at the Christmas Party.

Anyone having suggestions for meeting places should email Dianne.  The requirements are that we can be issued individual checks; we have a separate room and that the room can accommodate at least 30 people.

Connie Magee announced that Dianne has looked into getting sweatshirts with the club logo.  They are available.  Dianne will bring more info and samples at the next meeting.
