PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The rains seem to have stopped for a while. The sun has brought heat and more traffic to the beach. The latest weather conditions have given us all an opportunity to enjoy some cruising time.
Thank You to Debbie Willis who has volunteered to take over the duties of Historian for the club.
The Shorebirds outing was lots of fun. There were about 8 corvettes this year in the parade around the field. Six from our club and two joined us from 1st State Corvette Club. As we were caravanning from the WAWA in Millsboro we received many “thumbs up” and random hitchhike requests from those we passed along the way to the stadium. I heard lots of “Nice Cars” comments all along the way. Thank You to Carolyn and Tom who put this event together for us.
The Beachcombers Annual Car Show is rapidly approaching. All seems to be going well as plans for the show continue to unfold. Bill Shaw and his staff have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure a successful event. Sponsorships are up, primarily due to the efforts of Jim Willis who has alone solicited more than 15 new sponsorships in addition to donations for door prizes. Outstanding job Jim! Please remember to ask people who you do business with for their sponsorships and/or gift certificates. Also remember to tell all your friends that they will receive the picture plaques the when they register their cars, trucks and motorcycles for the show. Opportunities to work a block of time the day of the show still exist. A sign up sheet will be at the August 3rd meeting. If you have not been able to get to a recent meeting and sign up for some volunteer time the day of the car show please call Bill Shaw at 302-541-4891.
Buddy

Beachcombers Corvette Club of
Southern Delaware Meeting
July 6, 2006
The meeting was called to
order by President Buddy Clark at 7:34PM at La Quetzalteca Restaurant in
Millsboro.
Secretary’s Report--the minutes for June 2006 were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report— Janet
reported a balance of $1938.94 with payouts of $26 for rental of post office
box in Millsboro; $17 for postage to Connie Magee for mailings; and $350 to
Hartford Insurance for the Club’s liability insurance. Receipts of $52.50 in dues was received. Bill shaw made a motion to accept the report
and Don Magee seconded. All were in
favor.
There were no new member
applications presented by the Vice President.
Historian’s Report—Debbie Willis has accepted the Club’s request to be
our Historian. Mark Lowe resigned from
the position. Doc Romansoff made a
motion to accept Debbie as the club’s Historian. It was second by Don Magee and all were in favor.
Activities—
Carolyn Brinker
reported there are 39 tickets sold for our outing at Shorebird Stadium for Saturday, July 8th. The gates open at 6:05 and game begins at
7:05. The parade will take place around
6:30 so we have to be there by then. We
will do a group cruise and meet at WaWa in Millsboro, at Rt 24 and Rt 113 South
at 5pm. Our seats are boxes behind home
plate and fireworks will be held after the game. Tickets are $8. If people
do not show they are responsible to reimburse the club for the cost of the
tickets if they cannot be resold.
Members who reserved ticket but did not show up are reminded that your
tickets can be exchanged for any remaining game.
Janet Smith made a report on our liability insurance with Hartford.
Our insurance does not contain coverage for property. Liability limit if $1 million plus
medical. $10K good will coverage for
any person injured at one of our events.
Negligence and legal liability but no coverage for our officers. To cover our officers it costs and
additional $800-1200 a year. Rick Berry
informed us that the clubs he belongs to have an all inclusive policy for
around $350. a year which is what we now pay.
The policy will have to be amended to reflect Beachcombers Corvette Club
of Southern Delaware. Bill Shaw made a
motion to accept and it was seconded by Doc Romansoff. All were in favor. Before exiting the insurance issue Bill Vernon stated the question of liability coverage for our
officers should not be blown off. It
should be seriously assessed.
Car Show – August 19th – Bill Shaw
passed around a sign up sheet for all the activities that take place
during the day of the show and encouraged all members to sign up for as many
activities and as much time as possible.
The club will present the picture awards like we did last year.
Meals on Wheels is the charity designated for the Car
Show – Connie Magee will contact them
ASAP and get things lined up for the presentation at the show. She reminded everyone that sponsorship,
contributions etc for the show are all tax deductible.
Copies of the Members list, By-Laws, Applications,
Calendar of Events were available for
pick up thanks to the hard work of Connie Magee.
Letter for members to take so they could solicit for
Sponsors, Door Prizes, Goody Bag stuff etc. were made available for members to take with them.
President Buddy Clark quizzed the membership on some Corvette Trivia.
An invitation – 1st State Corvette Club has invited our club to join their
August 12th caravan to the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington,
DE. They are going to prepare and serve
breakfast for the guests and provide rides in their Corvettes. Since this is an activity our club is
considering they thought this would be an opportunity see what transpires
during such an event.
Club Christmas Party gift exchange – Connie Magee suggested that in lieu of
our usual Kris Kringle gift Exchange we consider helping the Ronald McDonald
House out by purchasing as many of the items on their WISH LIST as
possible. Doing this would help out so
much and also give members a little more time to dance to the music of the DJ
at the party.
Occasionally Yours – Connie Magee suggested the club consider participating
in this dinner club mystery “Who Done It” at Ocean Downs Raceway sometime
during the Fall, Winter, or
Spring.
The 50/50 raffle was not
conducted and door prizes were not awarded.
The meeting was adjourned at
8:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted for
the Secretary
