PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The triple digit weather has seemed to come to an end for now. It has brought us back to a top-down time of year. This is great weather for cruising. Hope everyone is enjoying what is left of summer.
Everyone that attended Rick and Linda Berry’s cook out really enjoyed themselves. Their collection is phenomenal. The cook did a great job. It always gives me enormous pleasure to attend their functions. Thank You Linda and Rick
Don and Connie Magee’s pool party was enjoyed by all who attended. The food and company was good, as always. Thank You Connie and Don for having us over.
If it seems as though we have been focusing all our efforts in the past few months on our 7th Annual Spectacular Car Show, you are right. Bill Shaw and his staff have put all the pieces together making sure we had all we need to have a very successful show. We have had many renewal sponsorships for trophies. We had a great deal of new trophy sponsorships, the majority of which were brought in by Jim Willis. Jim had 18 new sponsorships this year. This is a club record. We honored Jim at the last meeting with a beautiful plaque for this accomplishment. Many others have made major contributions for sponsorships as well as door prizes. Doug and Cindy Riniker brought in 4 door prizes they had gotten from businesses they frequent. Don and Connie Magee obtained more sponsorships, door prizes, and goodie bag stuffers. Bill & Dianne Shaw and Don & Connie Magee stuffed the goodie bags. We had a great turn out of members to help the day of the show. This has proven to be our best show ever. Thank all of you. Outstanding Job! This was truly a team effort.
Member Spotlight
Bill Shaw is our immediate Past President and Chair of the Car Show this year. Dianne Shaw is our newsletter publisher and editor. Bill and Diane are devoted members of our club. They have worked very hard putting together all that was needed to make this the best car show ever. Countless hours were spent by them prior to the day of the show, and, they both worked on the 19th from start to finish. Further, there were many other efforts they together put forth all year for the benefit of the club. Thank You for all your hard work. We truly appreciate you both.
Buddy

BEACHCOMBERS CORVETTE CLUB
ANNUAL CAR SHOW
SATURDAY – AUGUST 19 WAS A
GREAT SUCCESS
WITH OUR GREATEST NUMBER OF
PARTICIPATING VEHICLES
IN OUR CLUB’S HISTORY – 100+
Come to the September 7th
meeting to hear all the wonderful details!
I sincerely thank all the
club members who were able to help out on the day of the show. The early morning gang set the wheel in
motion and the seemingly endless job of set up was done in record time. Driving wooden and metal rods into the bone
dry ground left a few with sore arms I’m sure.
Our members pitched in bringing everything from tables…extension cords
to hook us up…ice and ice chests…griddles for warming scrapple…tents…gas and
cooker for the hot dogs…Coffee pots … water … soda…food…and all the myriad
condiments. Then they went on to doing registration, cooking, selling 50/50
tickets, awarding door prizes, tallying ballots, parking cars, taking pictures,
producing the pictures, counting money, awarding prizes, and presenting the
$500 check. Something I learned a few
years ago when I joined Beachcombers…you
ALL are the greatest! Bill Shaw

Intelligence Sources Uncover A Plot
Devised by a Local Organization to Scavenge Dover Area on Sunday, October 15th
The First State Corvette Club of Dover, Delaware is
hosting a Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, October 15 and WE’RE ALL INVITED! Some of the details are that the hunt should
take less than 3 hours and you’ll have to travel less than 100 miles in your
Vette. You’ll receive a list of items
you must scavenge during the hunt. It
looks like the meeting place is the Gateway Plaza just South of the Rt 10 Food
Lion just south of the Air Base.
Specifics and exact location to begin the hunt will be given at the
September 7th club meeting and will also be posted in the September
newsletter.
Can You Believe There Are Only 118 More
Shopping Days
Until CHRISTMAS !
Don’t scream!
I know we haven’t even celebrated Labor Day! But remember THE CLUB’S CHRISTMAS is going to be on Saturday,
December 2 so we have even fewer days to shop for the Ronald McDonald House in
Wilmington, Delaware. Yes, that’s
right! At a recent meeting the club
voted to eliminate our gift exchange at the Christmas Party and instead, we’ll
be filling boxes with items the Ronald McDonald House needs on a day to day
basis for its residents …their WISH LIST!
Connie Magee is going to bring copies of their Wish List to the
September - December meetings so we can begin shopping. I’m also asking her to put a copy of the
list at the end of this newsletter. I
figure…the more time we have to shop…the more items we can purchase. I want to ask something of our members who
know they will not be attending the club’s Christmas party. Please shop now and bring your items to the
upcoming club meetings. If you are not
able to shop but want to contribute just send a check to me, Dianne Shaw, and I
will shop for you! I’m at 38235
Bridgehampton Lane, Ocean View, DE 19970.
If you need to talk I’m at 302-541-4891. It’s going to be such a warm way to celebrate our holiday season
and help a wonderful charity at the same time.
Although I am not positive I think we might cruise to the McDonald House
to deliver our items and spend time with the residents and patients. We’ll keep you posted
.
POSSIBLE EVENT -
CRAB FEAST AT
JIMMY LYNN’S
SEAFOOD HOUSE IN
REHOBOTH BEACH
I recently spoke to Jimmy Jr and learned “they” no
longer do on-site crab feasts like the club has done there in the past. They still sell STEAMED CRABS though! It enough people would be interested we
could always plan an outing at one of the state parks and eat crabs etc. What do you think?

hard work as last year’s president and for his work with the car show.
Dianne Shaw gave Janet Smith money for the
Shorebirds game and suggested that the money be held until Carolyn Brinker is
available to help. Janet agreed to
this.

Jake’s restaurant’s manager and that we can have our meetings there for the
next 3 months. The meetings will be
held upstairs affording more privacy but there are no elevators. Ed Marcelle asked for the motion; Bill Shaw
seconded the motion. The membership

had obtained 18 of those sponsors. Bill
presented Jim with a plaque for outstanding achievement for obtaining those
sponsors. The membership thanked him
also.

they have arrived.

Information about the car show will be put on the
dealerships sign as soon as possible.
Sponsors will be sent letters of appreciation.

Scavenger Hunt sponsored by 1st State Corvette Club on Oct. 15 at
1:pm. There will be a slight charge for
entering to help with the trophies.
